McCaslin Racing Dominates SFWD Class at Import Face-Off, AZ

Import Face-off in Chandler Arizona was a last minute decision for Mason (@fatkidd661), but always looking for some real competition he loaded the Space Coupe on the trailer and was AZ bound. Once arriving, he entered the Street Front Wheel Drive class.

Mason took the car to Qualifying 1 fresh off the trailer, resulting in a pass of 8.9 @ 165 on a light tune with the car feeling great. His Action Clutch Twin Disc is making sure he gets all the power to the wheels and shows no sign of letting up. In preparation for Qualifying 2, they made a light tune up resulting in a new personal best pass of 8.670 @ 169 resulting in his second win of the day allowing him to move on to eliminations. Round 1 of eliminations, Mason got a competition bye pass. As he pulled up to make a short track pass, his clutch master cylinder breaks resulting in complete loss of pressure in the clutch pedal and the pedal being stuck to the floor. Cliff, the organizer for Import Face Off, gave Mason the ok to get it fixed for the next round leaving him 45 minutes to resolve the issue.

Mason reached out to some fellow racers to see if anyone had a spare CMC he can borrow. Aaron Tomosada (@fat_kid) didn’t even hesitate and lended a spare CMC to him only realizing the hose would not mate with his slave cylinder. That’s when Gavin Charoenmin (@GavGav.C) saved the day by giving him his own slave cylinder from his car as he had chucked a tire leaving him needing a tire change, taking himself out of the competition. HUGE props to him for keeping Mason in the race and sacrificing himself.

Mason with a fresh CMC in place lands another bye pass where he put down a pass of 8.61 @ 172 pass, a new PB, landing him in the Semi Finals. Soon after his pass he finds out he’s racing in the semi finals against no other than Aaron Tomosada from Think Fat Racing. As they prepare for the next round, Aaron was having major coolant pressure issues causing him to bleed it off after every pass. They both got off the line hard, but at the top of 4th gear Mason had a coupler split in two, causing the engine to shut off and coasted through the trap to the ticket booth, resulting in the win with another pass of 8.6 @ 170 vs Aaron’s pass of 9.0 @ 171.

Arriving at his rolled destination, the ticket booth, he fired it back up where the car was misfiring very badly. He limped the car back to the pits and was able to borrow a coupler right off the car of the day’s true MVP again, Gavin, keeping Mason in the races. Unfortunately as he fired the car up, the engine was still misfiring bad as if they were down on compression. Mason was then left with the decision to race in the finals, or pack it up and head home. Being the competitive racer he is, he opted to move forward and compete in the finals against JuJuBuilt Performance (@jujubuiltengineeredperformance).

With both cars hurt going into the finals there was no telling who would come out on top. With Mason’s car misfiring even before the burnout box, and his car dying in the burnout box, Aaron Rivas signaled to Mason if he wanted to go through with the race. With a firm thumbs up from Mason, the prepared for the last 1320’ trip of the day. Both cars lined up and Mason got the hole shot with a 0.100 reaction time. With both cars running as solid as they can under the conditions, JuJuBuilt’s engine unfortunately let go toward the end of the run resulting in Mason running a pass of 9.24 @ 150 to JuJuBuilt’s pass of 9.22 @ 124 and the win being awarded to Mason. This pass secured Mason’s victory in the Sport FWD Class who persevered through every obstacle thrown at him that day.

Huge shout out to his team who helped him throughout the day, Aaron Rivas (@MR_45k), Daniel Butler (@d_butl3r), Mason’s Wife Nati (@__________nati), and an even bigger shoutout to those who lended a huge hand to the team allowing them to continue Aaron Tomosada (@fat_kid) Sean Tomosada from Think Fat Racing (@thinkfatracing) and especially Gavin Charoenmin (@gavgav.c). Special shoutout to Alpha Injection Clinic (@Alpha_Injection_Clinic), for the amazing fuel setup, making fueling one of last things Mason needs to worry about.
